How many patient’s will i be responsible for?
This can vary, but on average a PGY-1 typically sees about 7-8 patients a day. The maximum number for a PGY-1 is 10.
How many days do residents get off?
This can vary based off the rotation the resident is on. Typically, electives have weekends off with a requirement to work 1 weekend in the month. On medical floors, you have every 6th day off.
Do you support outside electives?
Yes, residents may take part in outside rotations however are required to have department approval first
Will i have the opportunity to do scholarly activity or research?
Yes, we take pride in giving our residents the time and resources to pursue scholarly activity. If interested, you have the option of taking a research month which gives you time to work with your mentors, attendings on research and attend conferences.
How do residents get feedback on their performance ?
Feedback is provided in multiple forms. Attendings frequently provide active feedback during their time working with you. You also receive feedback online from your co-residents, seniors and attendings on a month to month basis.
Do resident’s get a formal board review course?
The program provides all residents with MKSAP to facilitate ABIM board examination preparation.
Where do most residents live?
We are located about 30 minutes from Downtown Chicago which is where the majority of our residents choose to live.
How many residents are in the program?
There are currently 48 internal medicine residents, 16 per class.
